What is Pulse? | Pulse is an AI driven visual overlay to the daily workflow for Stream (formerly Sedna) customers. Delving deep into email inboxes, Pulse extracts essential data, transforming its data into a single, consolidated and customisable view. |
How should charterers use Pulse? What are the key features for their workflows? | When you are looking for a vessel or cargo to meet business needs, you should open the relevant view in Pulse (tonnage or cargo) to find the most suitable vessel. You can use available filters to remove irrelevant opportunities, showing only what matters most. You can then enter “not:Position” and “not:Cargo” into Stream by Sedna’s search to focus the inbox on emails that don’t exist in Pulse. |
I’m not a charterer, can I use Pulse? | Today, Pulse is suitable for anybody who has a need for tonnage and cargo lists - mainly aimed at maritime charterers. If you don’t have a need for tonnage or cargo lists, then Pulse may not be a good fit for you at this time. As we continue to develop Pulse, we may add new functionality that makes it useful for you. Please let us know what might interest you in a future version of Pulse. |
What do the different colours in Pulse mean? |
|
Where is Pulse getting its data? How accurate is it? | Pulse works with third party data partners, chosen from options by the customer. If you would like to discuss anything regarding your data partners, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager. |
Emails in pulse say ‘most recent messages’. How far back do you look / pull emails into Pulse? | We load all messages related to a position / cargo, ordered by date received (most recent on top). In practice, all of these emails would have been received within the same few days. |
Would Pulse ever incorrectly match an email to a position? If so, when? | Yes, if the parser fails, then it may incorrectly categorise an email. This shouldn’t have a significant impact on your work. You will simply see an extra record in the table and will have the opportunity to correct it. You can always contact support if you have questions about this. |
If I spot a message that should have been tagged that hasn't, what do I do? | You can manually tag the message. If you spot these please let us know. |
Can I see a demo of Pulse? | We would be happy to schedule a call with you. |
Do all Pulse category tags need to be included for Pulse to work? | Pulse does not require any category tags for the tonnage and cargo lists to work effectively. The addition of type, region and vessel size category tags are only to benefit end-users in streamlining their email inbox. |
Can a customer manage their email using Pulse’s category tags? If so, does anything leave Pulse? |
Users can use Bulk Archive or Batch Select to archive emails en-masse. When using appropriate Category tags as search filters, users can further guarantee that only relevant messages are archived. Pulse includes all successfully parsed content, regardless of the message state. |
Is there both a light theme and dark theme for Pulse? | Not at the moment. |
What happens if a tag (e.g. region, vessel size) is missing? Will I still see the cargo or tonnage in my Pulse view? | If you have type (Market Position or Market Cargo) category tags enabled, then they are the best indicator of whether an email has made it into Pulse. We recommend enabling these tags as part of your configuration. The absence of region and vessel size Category tags on a message are not necessarily an indicator that a message didn’t make it into the dashboard. For example, a message may have only been partially parsed with a subset of data reaching the table. If you do not have any tags enabled, there is no indicator whether a message did or didn’t make it into Pulse. |
Can a customer sign up for the Pulse auto-tagger but not the main Pulse table overlay product? | Yes, customers can choose to sign up for Pulse auto-tagging which adds type, region and vessel size tags to email messages in Stream by Sedna. |
Do you parse the entire message (e.g. will a thread be parsed multiple times for the same content)? | Only the most recent email within a message thread is parsed. This is managed completely by the data provider. |
Does the data and messages in Pulse auto-refresh? | No, it does not. You can press the button labelled “Refresh” at the top of the table. |
How can I see all keyboard shortcuts for Pulse? | Command + J |
Are the positions that I search / view in Pulse unique to me? | No. Any positions that are available to you are available to others within your instance of Pulse. This means that any edits / changes made to your Pulse instance (including name changes or new positions added manually) will be visible to other users. |
What are Polygon Areas? How are they defined? | They are geofences that can be used to support searches for positions and cargoes. Sedna’s Customer Success team defines these for you by drawing on a map. |
Is there a limit to the number of filters you can save? | We advise that users limit themselves to 5-10 filters for efficiency. If users have a need for more filters, we would like to understand the use cases - because they may make sense as system defaults. |
How can I know if I already have seen a position? What if other people have seen a position but I have not? What if no one has seen the position? | Colours indicate the status of a tonnage or cargo on the left side:
|
What bespoke configurations exist for customers? | Please speak to your Customer Success Manager if you would like to discuss configurations. They include
|
Can you self-serve category tags with Pulse? | Not at the moment. |
How can I mark a position as read? | You can open it by clicking on it, clicking the Spacebar shortcut, or the “r” shortcut. |
Can you see positions for messages you don't have access to (e.g. teams or solo inboxes you do not have access to)? | You can see these positions but you cannot open the corresponding messages. |
What happens if I mark a position as read and a new message appears for that position? | If something material has changed with the position, it will be marked as unread. If nothing has changed, it will stay read. |
Can you filter for a specific type of cargo? | Yes, by clicking into the column header. |
Can Pulse estimate if vessels will meet cargo loading dates? | Not at the moment. |
Will the system recommend incompatible vessel sizes for my cargo? | No, the system will only display vessels that fall within the filter criteria you specify for vessel size or deadweight tonnage. |
Is Pulse available on mobile? | As of today, there is no mobile experience today for Pulse. However, Pulse does still tag messages in Sedna Email, so it aids in cleaning up the inbox even on mobile. |
