Overview
Tag Navigator introduces a new way to browse and organise your messages in Sedna. Instead of relying on a flat list of tags, you can now view Job tags as top-level items in your sidebar, with their related Category tags nested beneath them. You can also add your Private tags to the sidebar.
This creates a familiar “folder-like” experience while still leveraging Sedna’s tag-based framework.
This article will help you understand organising and exploring emails in Sedna using Tag Navigator, which displays Job tags with nested Category tags in the sidebar and private tags.
Who is this available for?
- This feature is managed by Sedna. Whether it is visible in your environment depends on how your system has been configured.
- If you’re unsure, contact Sedna Support. We can confirm your current settings and advise if this feature is available to you, or if it would add value for your team’s way of working.
How it works
The sidebar now has a dedicated Tags section, split into:
- Asset - optional setting to enable assets to be the top-level tag that is automatically added based on selected job tags
- Jobs – job tags can be top level tag or nested below asset tags. Job tags can have category tags nested below.
- Category – can be nested below job tags and a sub-section with a flat list of all Category tags
- Private - a flat list of your Private tags
Important to note: You cannot add archived job tags to tag navigator
1. Sidebar Structure
- Job tags appear as parent-level items in your sidebar or you can enable to group Job tags by their Asset tags.
- When you expand an Asset tag by clicking the plus icon:
- Job tags appear indented beneath Asset tags
- Category tags appear further indented beneath the Job tag (e.g., Bunkers, Damages, Charter Party, Port Clearance, Port Calls).
- Job tags appear indented beneath Asset tags
- Private tags remain in their own sub-section
2. Configuring Tags in the Sidebar
You can choose which Job, Category, Private Tags appear in your sidebar so you always see the ones most relevant to your work.
Open the Sidebar Settings
- In the sidebar, click the cog icon next to Tags.
- To group by Asset tag, enable the toggle “Group all jobs by their related asset type” on the Jobs tab if you want Job tags to be nested below their Asset tag. (More details in section below)
- To configure Job tags, click the Jobs tab at the top of the configuration window.
- To configure Category tags to nest under Jobs, click the Category tab at the top of the configuration window and enable the toggle “Nest these category tags under my job tags”
- To configure Private tags, click the Private tab, at the top of the configuration window.
Add or Remove Tags
- To add Job/Category/Private tags: search for your Job/Category/Private Tag and hit Save.
- To remove a Job/Category/Private tag, click the X next to it and hit Save.
Reorder Tags
- Drag Job/Category tags up or down in the list using the six-dot handle on the left.
- Your chosen order will persist in your sidebar.
Group Job tags by Asset
- Enable the toggle “Group all jobs by their related asset type” on the Jobs tab if you want Job tags to be nested below their Asset tag.
- When saving changes, the Job tags will be automatically grouped by Asset tag in the sidebar
- The Asset tags do not reflect in the modal but will be present in the sidebar
- The order of the Asset tags is based off the order of the Job tags in the modal
- Note: When enabled, Job tags that do not have an associated Asset tag will not display in the sidebar and will reflect as inactive in the modal
Nesting with Category Tags
- Toggle “Nest these category tags under my job tags” if you want Categories to appear beneath their Job tags (e.g., African Avocet → Bunkers, Damages, Charter Party).
- Switch it off if you prefer Jobs and Categories to display separately in the sidebar.
✅ Tip: Nesting makes it easier to navigate work like folders (Job → Categories). Use flat view if you prefer quick access to Jobs and Categories separately.
3. Search & Filtering
- Click on an Asset tag → Filters messages for that asset.
- Click on a Job tag → Filters messages for that job.
- Click on a Category under a Job → Filters messages for both the job and the category.
- Click on only a Category Tag under the category section → Filters messages for that category.
4. Drag-and-Drop Tagging
- You cannot drag a message to an Asset tag
- Drag a message to a Job tag → applies that Job tag.
- Drag a message to a Category tag → applies both the Job and Category.
- Drag a message to a Private tag → applies Private tag
5. Hide Tags in the Sidebar
- If you don’t want to see any tags in your sidebar, simply click the collapse icon next to the Tags section header. This hides the section from view until you expand it again.
