Vessel Directory lets you search for any vessel in the world from inside Sedna's Pre-Fixture module, so you can check a ship's details, ownership, and compliance without switching to other tools.
It is powered by Sedna's live integration with Lloyd's List Intelligence (LLI). You can browse results in a grid or on a live AIS map, then open a vessel to see its technical details, port calls, history (name, flag, class, P&I, ownership), and risk indication on the sidebar.
Vessel Directory is built for chartering managers and brokers sourcing tonnage, and for compliance and risk teams screening vessels before fixture.
Before you start
- Vessel Directory is included in Sedna's Pre-Fixture module. It can also be bought as a separate module, so you don't need Pre-Fixture to use it.
- Core vessel data (technical details, port calls, history and risk indication) is available to all Vessel Directory users.
- Advanced intelligence, such as voyage events, operational behaviour and predicted movements, requires an extended LLI subscription. See Extended LLI intelligence below.
If you can't see the Vessel Directory, contact your Sedna admin or your Customer Success Manager.
Open Vessel Directory
- Log in to Sedna and select Vessel Directory.
- The directory opens in grid view. Use the view toggle to switch between Grid and Map at any time.
Filter vessels
You can filter the list by any visible column.
To save a filter:
- Filter the list.
- Save the search and give it a name.
- Select it next time to reapply it instantly.
Saved filters are stored for your user, so they're there whenever you return.
You can share a saved filter with individual users or teams.
Use the grid view
The grid shows one vessel per row, with columns you can tailor to the way you work.
- Choose your columns: show, hide, and reorder columns to suit each vessel sector, for example, a different set for tankers and dry bulk.
- Your layout is saved: column settings are kept per user, so the grid looks the same next time you open it.
- Open a vessel: click any row to open the vessel detail sidebar.
Use the map view
The map view plots your search results on a live AIS map, so you can see where vessels are right now.

Your search and filters carry over from the grid. Click a vessel on the map to open the same detail sidebar you get in grid view.
View vessel details
The vessel detail sidebar brings all the data on a vessel together in five tabs.
| Tab | What you'll find |
| Details | Vessel particulars and registry data (name, flag, IMO/MMSI, DWT, GT, vessel type, year built), principal dimensions and capacities, and on-board equipment such as cargo gear. |
| History | Name and flag changes, classification society history with class survey dates, and P&I Club history. |
| Ownership | Registered owner, technical manager, and commercial operator |
| Port Calls | Recent port call history, with high-risk port visits flagged for compliance screening |
Add your own Status and Comments
Each vessel has two editable fields, Status and Comments. Use them to record your team's vetting position, for example whether a vessel is approved, under review or rejected.
These sit alongside the read-only LLI data. LLI data refreshes automatically, and the refresh never overwrites your Status or Comments.
Extended LLI intelligence
If your company has an extended LLI subscription, Vessel Directory shows additional intelligence to support bigger risk and compliance checks:
- Predicted movements: AIS signals combined with historical port call patterns to forecast a vessel's next destination, with estimated times of arrival, berthing, and departure (ETA, ETB, ETD).
- Voyage events: voyages are shown as a collapsible list. Expanding a voyage reveals a chronological record of events such as arrivals, departures, draft changes, and AIS gaps.
- Trading patterns: movements and trading areas, with sanctioned areas highlighted.
To upgrade your LLI subscription, contact your Customer Success Manager.
Custom columns and workspaces
- Custom vessel columns: your company can add its own columns to the grid, for example, internal vetting results or preferred-owner flags.
- Group vessels into workspaces: select one or more vessels and add them to shared workspaces, so your team works from the same list.
